Research at the Baby Lab relies upon the many Rochester-area families who volunteer to participate in our research studies. If you and your child are interested in participating in Baby Lab research, you can give us a call at (585) 275-4621, email us at email@example.com, or sign-up online by filling out our web form below.
Participation typically involves scheduling a one-time appointment of 30 minutes. The appointment includes time for children to play and get comfortable in the lab before the study starts. Parents stay with their children throughout their entire visit to the lab, including during the study. Studies usually take between 3 and 10 minutes.
Most studies involve researchers observing children while they listen to sounds, watch movies, or play. Researchers then record and analyze their eye-gaze patterns and brain activity during the activity. (See our Research methods page for more.) This data allows researchers to better understand various aspects of early cognitive development.Together with the Rochester Kid Lab, we run studies for children from birth to 12 years of age; however, the particular ages we schedule varies from week to week depending upon which studies are currently running. If you would like to be notified when your child is eligible for a study, you can contact us to request to be added to our research volunteer database.
To volunteer for future studies in the Rochester Baby Lab or the Rochester Kid Lab, please answer a few questions below and click “Submit”. We will then contact you via your preferred method of communication to get you entered into our volunteer database. Inclusion in the database enables us to let you know when your child is eligible for one of our studies, but it does not commit you to future participation. When your child becomes eligible for a study, we contact you to ask if you are interested in scheduling an appointment.
Your information will never be shared with anyone outside of the Rochester Baby Lab and Rochester Kid Lab. Further, you may request to be removed from the database at any point in the future. If you have questions or concerns about the database or anything else, we’d be happy to address them. You can contact us at (585) 275-4621 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
